Did someone say the finest Ski Mountain in the upper left? Shh… don’t tell anyone, it’s our best-kept secret! Nestled in the blissful Panhandle of Idaho, rests Schweitzer Mountain Resort. Long ago, the story goes that a Swiss Man sought shelter at the base of the Selkirk Mountains, where Schweitzer now resides. Years Later, when Schweitzer Mountain came into fruition, the local community decided to name Schweitzer Mountain, meaning “Swiss Man”, after this fella’, as his presence was well-known all around town. Jack Fowler and Jim Brown were two key contributors in founding, creating and opening the ski mountain in 1963. Ever since then, fellow adventure-seekers have been recreating on Schweitzer doing what they do best — exploring the marvelous beauty of the Selkirk Mountain Range.

In the summer, Schweitzer becomes a playground for mountain bikers, hikers, runners and for those more relaxed folk, scenic chairlift rides to the top! Schweitzer is home to various events, such as, The Fall Fest hosted annually over Labor Day Weekend, which is a family-friendly event offering wine, beer, and cider tasting, as well as many activities for the kids. Schweitzer also hosts a handful of organized runs throughout the summer, including The Huckleberry Color Fun Run and Race the Wolf. Additionally, Schweitzer keeps the Winter Season packed with lively events, local music and winter sport opportunity galore. Schweitzer ranks as one of the nation’s top ski destinations – with few lift lines and a whole lot of love (we promise)! The mountain is just a quick 20-minute drive from Sandpoint, thus easily accessible and surely not to be missed with breathtaking views of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Schweitzer’s Winter season kicks off in early December and concludes in early April. The Summer Season lasts from late June to early September. Schweitzer’s amenities include the White Pine Lodge, a handful of retail stores, a Spa, and several dining options, ranging from a pizza parlor to a fine dining restaurant. Additionally, Schweitzer is home to an abundance of Real Estate – ski in/ski out residences paired with the most miraculous views!

This year Schweitzer will introduce two new lifts on the back side, a high-speed quad and a fixed-grip triple; construction will commence at the end of the 2019 ski season. Schweitzer mountain is growth-oriented and is continuously evolving based on the demand of its enthusiastic supporters.
